For purposes of identification and as an assist to emergency personnel, all residences and commercial businesses or buildings within the corporate limits of the City of St. John shall display numbers on the outside of the buildings as designated in their legal address.

The numbering shall be done under and in accordance with the following system:

(a)   New and existing buildings shall have approved address numbers, building numbers or approved building identification placed in a position that is plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property.

For purposes of this Article, the intent is to require the location of address numbers, building numbers or approved building identification to be placed on the physical exterior of the residence or building. Address numbers solely located on a curb or mailbox do not satisfy the numbering requirements of this Article.

(b)   These numbers shall contrast with their background.

(c)   Address numbers shall be Arabic Numerals or Alphabet Letters.

(d)   Numbers shall be a minimum of four (4) inches (102 mm) high with a minimum stroke width of 0.5 inch (12.7 mm).

(e)   Any owner, person, firm, corporation, association, organization or entity convicted of violating the provisions of the article shall be fined a sum of Five Dollars ($5.00) per day until they have complied with said article.
